(CBS Charlotte) — Have you purchased your Halloween treats yet? If not, you better hurry, as Halloween is right around the corner.

Most people do not put a whole lot of thought into which Halloween candy they should purchase … but they should. Especially since, in recent years, there has been a major push to make Halloween a holiday where children receive apples and healthy, edible “treats.” Where is the fun in that?

Children look forward to Halloween each year because of the countless sugary treats they are destined to receive. Take that away from them, and Halloween is ruined … forever.

Is it wise to let the little monsters eat all of the candy the moment trick-or-treating is over? Well, no … however, anything in moderation is okay and rationing their candy and setting limits will help them develop self control.

Now, back to the main purpose of this article: CANDY! What kind of candy do children across America want to receive this year? And, more importantly, perhaps, what candy do they NOT want to receive?

Best And Worst Halloween Treats

Best:

1. Brand name chocolate bars such as, Twix, Butterfinger, Snickers, etc. Want to become extra popular this Halloween? Pass out full-sized candy bars!

2. Nerds, because everyone loves Nerds! All kidding aside, Nerds are a popular candy among children across the country.

3. What could be better than soft, chewy candy with a coating of sour sugar on top? Enough said … buy some Sour Patch Kids to pass out on Halloween.

4. “How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?” Kids love Tootsie Pops and Blow Pops. Don’t be a sucker this Halloween … put the Dum Dums back on the shelf!

5. Who doesn’t love cash money? We’re NOT talking about pennies, nickels and dimes — to clarify, we are talking about the paper stuff … as in dollar bills. While kids prefer candy, their little faces will light up seeing some paper money go into their treat bag this Halloween.

Worst:

1. Despite the fact that 64 million Tootsie Rolls are produced each day, no kid wants to receive Tootsie Rolls on Halloween.

2. Add generic candy to the list of treats kids DO NOT want to receive on Halloween. Spend a little more on the good stuff … the kids deserve it!

3. We already talked about money … so remember, kids want cash money, NOT pennies, nickels, and dimes. If you want to see them smile, do not give them coins this Halloween.

4. Remember, Halloween is all about candy, not healthy “treats.” As in, leave the fruit in the fruit basket. Kids DO NOT want fruit for Halloween.

5. While candy corn may be classified as “candy,” I can’t remember ever hearing a child excitedly talk about candy corn. I mean seriously, does anyone like candy corn?
