Upcoming 5Ks In And Around Charlotte

(CBS Charlotte) — One of the many wonderful aspects about Fall, besides the leaves turning pretty colors and the weather getting cooler, is the plethora of 5Ks benefiting various worthwhile causes.

With September behind us, and October nearly over, we thought it would beneficial to the community to highlight five upcoming 5Ks taking place during the month of November.

Upcoming 5Ks

1. The Pajama Run — Run a 5K while still in your PJs … what could be better than that? Now in its third year, the Pajama Run benefits the Carolina Ovarian Cancer Fund. By participating in this race, you help say goodnight to cancers below the waist.

2. 3-2-1 Dash For Down Syndrome — 3-2-1 Dash For Down Syndrome benefits The Down Syndrome Association of Great Charlotte (DSAGC.) The organization provides support to families who have children that have been diagnosed with Down Syndrome.

3. The Thin Blue Line Run — Now in its fourth year, this charitable run is in memory of Charlotte’s Finest. The entry fee is $30, and proceeds benefit Charlotte’s Finest Legacy Foundation. The foundation provides scholarships to deserving high school seniors who intend to become police officers. The walk is also held in honor of two CMPD Officers who were both tragically killed while on duty in 2007.

4. Inaugural Charlotte National Veterans Day Run — What a great way to say “thank you” to someone who has fought for our country! All proceeds from this 5K will benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation. This foundation provides assistance to the families of soldiers killed or disabled during combat.

5. eRACE the Impact! — eRACE the Impact is a 5K/One Mile Fun Run that benefits ‘A Child’s Place.’ A Child’s Place is a local charity that assists children in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District who are homeless. The charity’s main focus is to erase the impact of homelessness on local children and their education. This 5K was created and organized by a high school senior at Hough High School, named Emily.

Emily felt compelled to make a difference in our community because she doesn’t know what she would do without a home and a solid family life. Emily adds, “With the help of this organization (A Child’s Place,) I believe homeless students are given all the support they need to graduate and prepare a future for themselves.”
