Greg Cosell from NFL Films and the producer of the NFL Match Up Show joined the guys as he does each Friday at 8:05 am and discussed the Panthers wins over the Rams and Bucs this week. Greg describes specific throws from Cam last night that showed improved mechanics and that Cam is processing things a lot quicker at the line of scrimmage. The ball is coming out a lot quicker. The Panthers have the fewest three and out drives in the NFL right now. He explains that these are NFL teams so don’t buy into the notion that they are just having success due to teams being down.
Greg broke down exactly why Cam is improving:”I think for the most part he’s processing things quicker. He’s isolating the necessary information quicker and the result is the ball’s coming out quicker. No matter how athletic your quarterback is in the NFL, that’s a nice thing to have in your back pocket when you need it, but that can’t be your number one thing to be a successful NFL QB.”
“Right now he’s playing incredibly efficiently. This team, believe it or not, has the fewest 3-and-out drives of any team in the NFL.”
He was also quick to point out that defensive coordinator Sean McDermott is putting the defense in a position to be great. “Sean McDermott needs to get a ton of credit; this defense is playing at a high level, week in and week out,” said Cosell. “Sean is recognizing his talent and utilizing tremendously effectively. They’re camouflaging the fact that they don’t have great players in the secondary and that’s another sign of great coaching that your weaker areas aren’t getting exposed.” He believes that LBs Thomas Davis and Luke Kuechly are two of the best coverage linebackers in the league.
