Routing the St. Louis Rams 30-15, the Carolina Panthers had a great Sunday afternoon beating another NFC team and getting their record to a pivotal .500 spot.  But the game was an emotional and angry game for one legendary Panther player.

Wide Receiver Steve Smith called in to “The Drive” with Taylor Zarzour and Marc James to set the record straight about his locker room comments, his record setting 800th career reception, and furthering his record with a 3-3 Panthers team.

For those who missed the story earlier in the week, Smith said that’s why he spent extra time celebrating in the end zone after his TD due to comments made from Janoris Jenkins concerning Smith’s wife.  Smith even pointed at Janoris Jenkins after beating him for a 19-yard touchdown reception.

“When you embarrass people you rub it in their face,” Smith said. The wide receiver went further using profanity.

“I don’t play them games. And if I see him on the street, I’m going to bust him in the mouth,” he said with an expletive.

After listening back to his comments from the locker room, Steve Smith seemed that the St. Louis Rams comments on the field went a little to far.

“When I go against an opponent i talk…but I’m not going to Google a guy’s wife’s name and try to find out little things…and it wasn’t just him…To go to that extent, for me…I talk mess, but I would never walk up to a guy that I wouldn’t know besides watching him on video…and call her out in the name of sportsmanship or gamesmanship…I think that is clear disrespect.”

“He sounds like he needs to wear some condoms,” says Smith who doesn’t even feel like Jenkins is even a good cornerback in the NFL.

After winning two straight games in a row against the Minnesota Vikings and Rams, Smith says that the team has found an identity and “they’re taking care of games.”  But going against critics who said they’ve beaten not so great teams, he says that “you take the wins how you take them.”

The Carolina Panthers are heading to Tampa Bay this week for the Thursday Night game on October 24th at 8:30 PM EST.
