CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Coach Ron Rivera says the Panthers will wait until later this week to decide whether to activate running back Jonathan Stewart to the 53-man roster.
Stewart is on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list with an ankle injury but is eligible to play this Sunday against the St. Louis Rams if activated to the roster.
Rivera says the team will put Stewart through a rigorous workout on Tuesday and “then start looking at our options.”
The Panthers have three weeks to elevate him to the roster or he’ll go on injured reserve.
Stewart wouldn’t rule out playing against the Rams, but says realistically he probably needs more than a week of practice to get ready.
Stewart says the ankle “is definitely not like what I want it to be.”
