INMAN, S.C. (AP) — Spartanburg County sheriff’s deputies have arrested an Inman man after a search of his home turned up explosive materials.
Sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Tony Ivey said 57-year-old Victor Garrett is charged with bomb possession.
Ivey said investigators were executing a search warrant after a report of corrosive material being stored improperly at the home. He said the search determined that the material was not corrosive but explosive material.
Technicians with the sheriff’s office Hazardous Materials Unit identified the explosives with assistance from the S.C. National Guard, and determined it was unsafe to move them to another location. The explosives were destroyed in place shortly before 6 p.m.
Garrett was jailed under $25,000. It’s not known if he has an attorney.
