On ESPN last week, Mike Ditka made a comment that surprised me. He said Peyton Manning is the greatest player he has ever seen. Ditka is old school. So he has seen or played against damn near everyone. That comment holds weight.
I used to always say Jerry Rice is the best ever. But, Ditka got me thinking. The Quarterback is the most important player on the field. Heck, the QB is the most important position in sports. I already believed that Peyton is the best QB I have ever seen. So, maybe he is the best player I’ve watched.
As a fan, I have never feared going against a player like I do Manning. He is so in control. He is the OC and the QB at the same time. Montana had Walsh. Manning had Tom Moore. But, it didnt matter. He was the coach of those Indy offenses.
Now, in Denver, he is running one of the best offenses I have ever seen. He is doing it at 37 years old after multiple major neck surgeries. He is truly like fine wine, getting better with age. When he hangs them up, he will most likely be the leader in career yards and TDs. He might set every single season record this year.
He has only one ring you say? But, more might very well be on the way. This Denver team is extremely dominant.
You say he is no Tom Brady in the post season? But, Peyton actually has a higher playoff passer rating.
You say that Peyton has more bad games in the playoffs than Tom? But, Tom has 10 games with less than an 80 rating and Peyton has 6. Tom has more multiple interception playoffs games. And, Tom is only 3-5 in his last 8 playoff games.
This year will put Peyton in the playoffs 13 of 15 healthy years. It will be his 15th straight year with 26 TDs or more. He is the best ever at the most critical position. That makes him the best I have ever seen.
