The Drive Wednesday 9-25-13 – Archie Manning joins The Drive to talk about the special that was on ESPN, they get into Archie finding his dad after taking his own life, how the oldest brother Cooper Manning handles being part of the family, and we get into how Eli and Peyton chose to go to their respective schools.
We start by asking Archie about the oldest son in the family Cooper Manning and how he felt watching the documentary.
“Everybody that knows Cooper knows that he’s kind of the life of the party”
“Cooper has three beautiful kids, he’s a great husband and a great father and we couldn’t be more proud of him.”
We next ask Archie about the decisions his boys made when choosing a college and when to go to the pros.
“Peyton was a mature kid, Olivia and I knew that. We just strongly felt that he was capable of making his own decision and he did.”
“I think more than anything Peyton just wanted to be a Senior, he just wanted to play some more college football.”
“Eli had a tough time he wanted to get his college over with quick.”
“The San Diego thing was tough but that was Eli’s decision most people don’t believe me when I say that but it’s true.”
Finally Marc James shocks Archie by asking if he had come out his junior year he would’ve been the #1 pick and would have five Superbowl rings with the Steelers.
“I have never ever heard anyone say that before”
“But really no one came out early then”
“Terry (Bradshaw) kind of gets after me let’s not go there”
