3 Men Convicted In SC Sports Betting Ring
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina man convicted of double murder has been found guilty of being behind a sports betting ring.
A federal jury in Columbia on Wednesday convicted Brett Parker, his father and an associate of operating an illegal gambling business.
Prosecutors said Parker, his father, Jack Parker; and a third man, Douglas E. Taylor, ran a gambling operation that collected thousands of dollars a day.
The men will be sentenced later. Brett Parker is already serving life in state prison without parole for killing his wife and business partner, Bryan Capnerhurst.
Prosecutors said Parker killed his wife, Tammy, in April 2012, and tried to frame it on Capnerhurst. Parker testified unsuccessfully that he shot Capnerhurst after the man came into his home, quickly killed his wife, then demanded money.
