SUMTER, S.C. (AP) — Sumter police have arrested a woman they say led them on a high-speed chase with a child in her car.

Police say they saw 41-year-old Susie Loretta Oaks-Thomas drive through a red light on Thursday afternoon. Officers say she kept going, weaving in and out of traffic, crossing the center line several times at speeds as fast as 100 mph.

The driver finally stopped, and officers say they found Oaks-Thomas’ 4-year-old granddaughter in the car, without a seatbelt.

The driver has been charged with failing to stop for blue lights and child endangerment, and authorities say she’s wanted on unrelated charges in various counties. It wasn’t known if she had an attorney.

The girl has been placed with other relatives.
