(CBS Charlotte) — At around 10 p.m. this evening a car crashed into a power pole in SouthEnd, causing a major power outage across the area.

The incident happened at the intersection of Wilmore Drive and West Summit Avenue, and according to CMPD officers, the suspect fled the scene.

Police were also dispatched to SouthEnd earlier in the evening amid reports of gunshots, but as of now, the two incidents do not appear to be related.

Nearly 4,000 people in SouthEnd are currently without power. Duke Energy workers are on scene to restore power to those affected.
