The Drive Tuesday 8-27-13 - Tommy Bowden talks with The Drive about the kickoff of the college football season this Thursday.  With UNC vs USC starting the season in primetime they start by asking the former Clemson coach how the Tar Heels can win that game, plus they discuss if the SEC will win an 8th straight BCS title and we ask the former coach if he thought he would be back coaching by now.

We start with asking the former coach about how UNC can beat the South Carolina Gamecocks.

“They obviously need to have a plan for Clowney”

“If your going to attack a defense like South Carolina that’s really talented number one is to have a veteran quarterback and they have that in Brynn Renner”

After winning 7 straight BCS titles do Tommy Bowden think they’ll win an eighth?

“Unless they just beat each other up…I think the only thing that’s going to keep teams from the SEC continuing to dominate is those teams in the bottom half not being as good as they have been”

Next we move to the old North State and ask Tommy just what is keeping the teams from North Carolina from being even relevant in the Top 25.

“Mack Brown was a really good recruiter in the state you have to keep those players in the state and they’ve been getting poached the last few years”

Finally we ask about Tommy’s  new book “Winning with Character” and if he’s surprised he’s not coaching again.

“Nothing has really jumped out at me but I’ve talked to committees and some schools, so I’m not gonna rule it out.
