Police: Man Bought Beer After Killing Girlfriend
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Investigators say a 55-year-old man strangled his girlfriend in her Charleston apartment, then used her credit card to buy beer.
Authorities said Kathy Hawkins was found dead Thursday with her empty purse beside her. The coroner’s office thinks she was killed two days before.
Police arrested David Reagan and charged him with murder. Court records show Hawkins’ credit card was used several times after her death, and investigators say a convenience store video camera shows Reagan buying beer Friday with Hawkins’ card.
Reagan is being held without bail in the Charleston County jail. It wasn’t known if he had a lawyer.
