SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright says he has fired four jail guards after an investigation into their behavior with an inmate last month.
Wright released few details about the firings Thursday, saying the State Law Enforcement Division is currently investigating the incident to see if criminal charges should be filed.
Wright says the inmate was arrested on a misdemeanor around July 4 and complained about how he was treated at the jail after his release.
The sheriff wouldn’t name the guards because of the criminal investigation, and didn’t identify the inmate because of medical privacy laws. He also gave no details about what happened between the officers and the prisoner.
Wright says the firings show any claim of misconduct is investigated, even if 99 percent of them are false.
