The Drive Tuesday 8-20-13 - Darren Sharper joins The Drive to talk about the anticipation the players experience leading up to the season, how Cam Newton will perform in his 3rd year, and who sees winning the NFC South division. Plus we get some stories about our friend Steve Smith that Darren remembers from his days playing against the Panthers.
Currently an analyst for the NFL Network, Sharper revealed to the guys the national perception of the Carolina Panthers.
“I think the perception is they don’t really have an identity of what they want to do…They aren’t a team that people look at as a team that could run the table.”
One of the concerns in many people’s minds is the lack of talent at the WR position for the Panthers, the 13 year NFL safety gave his insight on this issue.
“You know if you stop Steve Smith, it’s going to be tough for Cam Newton to find open guys.” He also added that defenses would be ‘licking their chops” when they go up against Panthers WRs outside of Steve Smith.
A member of the NFL’s 2000s Decade Team, Sharper gave the guys his Super Bowl prediction on his way off the air.
“Out of the NFC, I really like the Seattle Seahawks…In the AFC, I really like the Cincinnati Bengals….A team that is a breakthrough team, a team that could win the Super Bowl, is the Cincinnati Bengals.”
