On the Mac Attack today, before I started choking like Tony Romo on a piece of fried chicken, we were debating if the Panthers have enough weapons for Cam to win. And, my answer is yes.
Brandon Lafell seems to get ripped in this town as a weak number two receiver. But, he really is their number 3 target. Smitty and Olsen are the top two guys in catches and targets. So, if you compare Brandon Lafell to other third targets, he does compare favorably.
He had more yards receiving last year than 23 other teams’ #3 receiving target. He also has more yards (677) than the average amount of yards for a 3rd target (590). And, he averaged over 15 yards a catch, had only two drops and was 4th in the NFL in yards after the catch at 7.1. Let that sink in. Only 3 receivers in the whole league averaged more yards after the catch than Lafell. He is a play maker.
Doemink Hixon has been a 3rd target on a Super Bowl winner. Ted Ginn has blazing speed. And, Armanti Edwards is an intriguing X Factor. Throw in our ultra deep group of backs who all can catch balls out of the backfield and I think you have a real balanced group of skill players.
I do worry about the O-Line and Mike Shula as OC, but when it comes to the guys who catch and run with the rock, I think we are fine.
