The combination of Phil Mickelson and the British Open have never been a good mix.

Just like oil and water, A Rod and the Yankees, or Dwight Howard and the Lakers, the two have never been a match made in heaven.

That all changed last Sunday at Muirfield when Lefty put on a show for the ages down the stretch, finding birdies on 4 of his last 6 holes to win his first Open championship.  A win in which Phl called perhaps the greatest of his illustrious career proved again that whether you like him or not, you have to admit that the one thing he is not is dull.

One of the reasons that many, including yours truly, never gave Phil a chance to win the Open was that his all or nothing game did not fit the makeup of those who were capablr of winning the Claret Jug.

But Phil finally adapted and with it gave golf fans a finish that will be talked about for some time.  Even when Phil is not at his best, he will do something that makes you go huh? or wow!!

Last Sunday, there was a lot more of the wow than we have seen with him at any time across the pond.
