ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) — Police are looking for a woman who left a 2-month-old boy with a staff member at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill last week.
Police say the woman said she could no longer care for the child.
South Carolina law allows people to take unwanted children to authorities with no questions asked, but that applies only to children 30 days old or younger.
The police report says there were no signs of neglect or abuse.
The hospital called the York County Department of Social Services. The child will be placed with a foster family.
Tests determined the child was born May 1, too old to qualify for Daniel’s Law, which allows unwanted children to be left with authorities.
But police Lt. Brad Redfearn says the mother may not be charged.
