RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The latest weekly protests of Republican policies at the North Carolina General Assembly will take place as legislation regulating abortion is waiting to be finalized.

The state chapter of the NAACP said Monday’s demonstration will focus upon the rights and leadership of women.

More than 700 people have been arrested at the Legislative Building as a form of disobedience since the “Moral Monday” protests began in April.

A bill requiring more stringent rules for abortion clinics and demands upon physicians who perform abortions passed the House last week. The Senate must sign off on the changes before it goes to Republican Gov. Pat McCrory.

McCrory said late last week he would sign the bill into law because lawmakers addressed his concerns about the legislation.
