(CBS Radio) — Have you ever heard about the wonderful health benefits associated with consuming foods that are rich in antioxidants?

Antioxidants have the potential to prevent diseases such as cancer and other debilitating diseases. Additionally, eating foods rich in antioxidants can help protect your skin from damaging UV rays.

Generally, antioxidants give your skin the ability to fend off the damaging effects of the sun.

Here are the Top 5 antioxidants that help offer your skin protection from the sun:

5. Fish

Fish that contains Omega 3′s has been shown to reduce inflammation in your skin and protects your skin from sun damage. Additionally, adding fish or an Omega 3 supplement to your diet can help protect you against skin cancer.

4. Fruits and Vegetables

Most fruits and vegetables contain antioxidants, however, orange and red fruits and vegetables contain Lycopene and Beta-carotene. Lycopene and Beta-carotene promote skin health and Beta-carotene helps protect your skin from burning in the sun.
