No One Hurt As Car, Amtrak Train Collide In NC
KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. (AP) — Authorities say no one was hurt when a car collided with an Amtrak train in Gaston County.
The wreck happened shortly before 4 a.m. Wednesday at a crossing near Kings Mountain.
Officials say the car went around the crossing arms and was hit by a train traveling from New York to New Orleans. The North Carolina Highway Patrol says the train had 263 passengers and was traveling at 55 mph.
Tryonota Fire Capt. Justin Toney says the train did not derail, but the lead engine was damaged.
Twenty-year-old Dylan Colt O’Daniel of Dallas (N.C.) has been charged with reckless driving and failure to stop for a railroad gate.
It was not immediately clear on whether O’Daniel has a lawyer.
