The Drive Wednesday 7-10-13 – The newest Bobcat Al Jefferson joins The Drive to talk about the Bobcats chances of making the playoffs with him in the lineup, what sold him on signing with the Bobcats, and how his time with the Utah Jazz has helped him become a leader.
The newly signed Bobcats was asked why out of all the teams that were pursuing him, why he picked Charlotte.
“They made an offer, they let me know they wanted me to be a part of their team, that they were a big fan of mine, that me joining this team could really help turn this thing around and when I was sitting across the table listening to them, they just won me over. It was good to know there was a team in the league that thought that much of you and about your game, and after that it was done.”
The Bobcats have a young core which most people in the community are excited about, well it turns out, Al Jefferson was too.
“One of the things they sold me on, which they didn’t have to do too much selling on, was the young players, the young players they have here, like Kemba Walker and the other young players, and also then veterans they have here, they have a nice mix of players on the team.”
The big story in Charlotte this summer was the announcement that the Charlotte Bobcats will transform into the Charlotte Hornets. The 9 year vet gave us his thoughts on the name change.
“To me, the Hornets just fit in Charlotte. That was the team I grew up watching and I was a big fan of Larry Johnson and all them guys so I just think the Hornets fit in Charlotte and I’m just happy for when it happens and we can move forward.”
