Teen Mom Charged In Infant Son’s Death, Likely Caused By Abuse
WALTERBORO, S.C. (AP) — Colleton County sheriff’s deputies have charged a 17-year-old mother with homicide by child abuse in the death of her 9-month-old son.
Authorities said charges against the mother were upgraded after autopsy results determined the baby had been beaten in the stomach and showed signs of being suffocated or choked.
Investigators say the baby was found unconscious at a home near Round O on June 4 when he was supposed to be sleeping on a couch. The infant died at the hospital a short time later.
Deputies charged the mom with illegal conduct toward a child after interviewing everyone in the house.
