NC Men Plead Guilty To Stealing Mailed Checks

LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) — Two North Carolina men have pleaded guilty to stealing and cashing checks from mailboxes throughout central Virginia.

U.S. Attorney Timothy Heaphy’s office says the men stole more than $300,000.

Twenty-eight-year-old Getony Barnette and 29-year-old Jeremy Brown, both of Charlotte, pleaded entered their pleas Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Lynchburg. Brown pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud and identity fraud. Barnette pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, mail theft and identity fraud and one count of aggravated identity fraud.

The stolen checks were cashed in Salem, Roanoke, Lynchburg, Bedford County, Blacksburg and Christiansburg.
