The Drive Monday 6-3-13 - Marc Spears joins The Drive to talk about Lebron James’ performance in game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals, why he thinks Mike Dunlap was let go from the Bobcats after only one year, and what will happen to the Heat if they lose tonight.
Marc Spears, the national NBA Columnist for Yahoo! Sports, was asked about the recent hire of Steve Clifford as the new head coach of the Charlotte Bobcats.
“Everything I have been hearing, have been great things. He wasn’t a guy that really got much publicity during his career, he was more behind the scenes, even with the Lakers, as high profile as they are, you never really heard much from him but it’s always good to see assistant coaches, who paid their dues, to get a chance and he certainly did that under some great coaches.”
What will happen if LeBron James and the Miami Heat lose tonight? We asked that question to the longtime NBA columnist, as well as how will a loss affect LeBron’s legacy?
“You know, if LeBron loses tonight, and I’m a part of the national media so I’m speaking for everybody I guess but I don’t think we can beat him up. If he plays well, I don’t think we can beat him up because it’s not his fault.”
Marc Spears gave his insight into what he thinks is causing the recent struggles for star Miami Heat SG, Dwyane Wade.
“I think he’s really, really in bad shape right now. I think he’s keeping his situation quiet right now and once the season’s over maybe he’ll open up more.”
With the recent announcement that the Charlotte Bobcats will become the Charlotte Hornets again one day, Spears was asked how this name change was perceived amongst the nati0nal media.
“I think it’s really cool they’re bringing the name back, I really do….I’m really happy Charlotte got it’s old name back but, you know, putting Hornets on the jersey or the MJ’s on the jersey isn’t going to change the team. It’s still the same guys.”
