Steve Clifford On Dwight Howard Coming To The Bobcats: “I Won’t Do Anything To Dispel That Rumor…”
Bustin’ Loose: 5-30-13: Steve Clifford: New Bobcats coach Steve Clifford joined Frank and Yarbs to discuss the team and where he wants to take them. “We have to have guys who are serious players, committed to the individual game and committed to the team game.” “That all starts with having the right culture and having the right approach. We have to concentrate on making our guys better.”
The first question we asked the new Charlotte Bobcats Head Coach is how competitive he thinks the current roster can be.
“The roster is incomplete right now… We stil have the draft and free agency and then we can re-assess…This whole thing is a process.”
There’s a certain type of payer it take to be successful in today’s NBA and Clifford described what he thought that kind of player looks like.
“We have to have guys who are serious players, committed to the individual game, and committed to the team game… That all starts with having the right culture and having the right approach. We have to concentrate on making our guys better.”
While a balanced attack on both ends of the court is important, Clifford talked about the importance of stressing defense.
“Defense will be the major emphasis when we meet for training camp… We’re going to be consistent and we’re going to work at it.”
Serving as an Assistant Coach for 13 years presented certain challenges, but being a Head Coach is a whole different animal.
“The challenge [as a Head Coach] is not only setting a direction, but also setting a direction [the players] will follow.”
And lastly, he was an assistant in Orlando and Los Angeles while Dwight Howard was in those cities, so we wondered if had desires of coaching him once again.
“If you guys want to spread that rumor, I’m not going to do anything to dispel it.”
