Steve Clifford Is The Newest Bobcats Head Coach…Call Him “RENT-A-COACH”
Steve Clifford is the Latest Charlotte Bobcats head coach. Who? To quote “My Brother from another Mother” QCB: “NEVER HEARD OF HIM!!!” I’ve heard of Clifford Robinson; Clifford Huxtable (Cosby Show Reference); I’ve heard of Clifford the Big Red Dog, but Steve Clifford?
All kidding aside, I actually have heard of him. He was an assistant over a decade ago for Don Chaney with the Knicks; then Jeff Van Gundy with the Houston Rockets. After that, he was with Jeff’s brother Stan helping the Orlando Magic reach the 2009 NBA Finals. He spent this past season in Los Angeles with Dwight “Prima DIVA” Dwight Howard and the Lakers.
This is the Bobcats third head coach in three seasons. Although he has a better resume than his predecessor Mike Dunlap, let’s be honest, Steve Clifford is NOT selling tickets. He reeks of another “RENT-A-COACH” who will probably be dismissed by the time the Carolina Panthers will be selecting their first round pick next April.
He has a great rapport working with big men like Howard, Pau Gasol, and the now retired Yao Ming. His only head-coaching experience was at Division II Adelphi University in New York. Not exactly a high profile program like Louisville or Kentucky. We’ll see what happens.
On the surface it appears like another “Stop-Gap Transitional” coach until the entire franchise goes Back To The Future with the purple and teal of the Charlotte Hornets in the 2014-2015 season. That is when Michael Jordan will make a big splash with a brand name head coach.
As THEE “UNSILENT MAJORITY” on Everything, here’s a little friendly advice, Mr. Clifford: RENT in Charlotte, but whatever you do, DO NOT BUY property. I hear Ballantyne is quite nice.
