Reporting Chris “Mac” McClain
On Friday’s Mac Attack, NASCAR took a beating from fans who claimed “it isn’t as good as it used to be.” I agreed on a variety of fronts. Things like the advantage of clean air for the leader at cookie cutter tracks, lack of a true blue collar driver and the long schedule all bother me.
But, it is still the best type of racing in the world. And, two things I saw today while watching open wheel racing made me realize that NASCAR does have it perks.
First, the Monaco Grand Prix in F1 today. Nic Rosberg led EVERY lap. If that happened in NASCAR, fans would claim they would never go to a race again. Talk about no passing.
And, second, the Indy 500 had some great racing, The lead swapping down the stretch was awesome. But, a caution comes out with two laps to go and I am waiting for a green white checkered finish. Instead the Announcers say “That is it.” Then I remembered the old days of NASCAR races ending under caution. That’s such an anticlimactic was to see a great race end. Advantage NASCAR.
I was glad to see Tony Kanaan win though. It was long overdue.
