NC NAACP Calls For June 3 Rally For Next Protest
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The North Carolina chapter of the NAACP is calling for a mass rally June 3 to continue its series of weekly protests.
The civil rights group says it will introduce the next wave of protestors who will risk arrest and announce other plans Friday at Martin Street Baptist Church.
The state chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will launch a 25-county tour of public gatherings next week and postpone its fifth Monday protest until the following week in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. Those protests at the state legislature against Republican economic, education and voting policies have resulted in more than 150 arrests.
Each week has drawn more supporters and arrests. Details of the upcoming organizing and education tour will be announced Friday.
