Reporting Marc James
We are about to go “Back to the Future” in the Queen City. After a Decade of disappointments, Charlotte is finally getting the BUZZ back. The current owner of the Charlotte Bobcats and best basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan, has bestowed the single greatest gift ever to Charlotte. The purple and teal will make its illustrious return back home to the 704 where it rightfully belongs.
In the beginning of the 2014-2015 season, Hugo the Hornet will fly from the rafters of Time Warner Cable Arena, or should I say the “HIVE”, just like he did back at the franchise’s inception in 1988-89. We can all take a stroll down memory lane to those good ol’ days on Tyvola Road at the Charlotte Coliseum.
The Hornets conjures up so many fond memories of “GrandmaMa” Larry Johnson, Muggsy Bogues, Alonzo Mourning, Kendall Gill, Rex Chapman, Kelly Tripucka, Mike Gminski, etc.
The Bobcats brought the NBA back to Charlotte, but never quite resonated the way the Hornets did. It’s probably due in large part to the fact the franchise has been mired in futility. The Bobcats have only made the playoffs once in a decade, NEVER won a single playoff game, and have a professional sport’s WORST winning percentage in the last two seasons (28-120).
Although the most ardent and die hard NBA fans here will never forget Adam Morrision, Sean May, Alexis Ajinça, etc., it is now time to forgive and press the RESET button once and for all.
Say it with me, Charlotte, loud and clear: LET’S GO HORNETS…LET’S GO HORNETS…LET’S GO HORNETS!!!
THEE “UNSILENT MAJORITY” Marc with a “C” James
