The biggest soccer event each year is once again upon us. Two German giants square off in the final for a much anticipated thriller.

Since 1955 when the UEFA Champions League Cup was founded, only three occasions have seen two teams from the same country in the Final.  The last occasion was in 2008 when English side Manchester United defeated Chelsea FC on penalties.  Prior to this, Italian sides Juventus and AC Milan battled it out back in 2003.  The 2000 final was met between two Spanish sides with Real Madrid defeating Valencia.  This year introduces an all German final between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund to make it the fourth time in history.

Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are fierce rivals in the Bundesliga (German League), known for their advanced technical play it sets the stage for an interesting “chess match” between the two teams.  Bayern Munich are clear favorites for most to take away the title, especially with some unfinished business after last years defeat to Chelsea FC on penalties.  Bayern have also been crowned as the Bundesliga Champions this year which we can only expect will carry some confidence into the final.  Now, we must not forget about Borussia Dortmund.  For a team that pays its players exponentially less than other big teams in Europe, they have shown that heart and passion can always over come the odds.

I am a firm supporter of any underdog and hope to see the beauty of soccer play out with another thrilling final, for this reason I am going to predict Borussia Dortmund the victors after a tight game ending in penalty kicks.

The 2013 UEFA Champions League final will take place on Saturday May 25, 2013. The match kicks off at 7:45 UK time and 2:45 Eastern time.
