BURLINGTON, N.C. (AP) — Police say a woman has been charged with taking 16 cats from the Burlington Animal Shelter.
Police say 22-year-old Emily Suzanne Uckele of Burlington turned herself in Tuesday.
Uckele is charged with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and first-degree trespassing.
Police were called to investigate a break-in at the shelter May 7. Police found evidence they thought was used to break into the structure.
Police reviewed video at a nearby store and saw Uckele buying the item that was used in the break-in.
Investigators think other people were involved in the break-in. The cats are still missing.
It was not clear if Uckele has an attorney.
