CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Authorities are trying to figure out how human remains were found in woods near the Stono River in Charleston County.
Investigators say two men walking through the woods to launch a canoe Friday afternoon found the skull and other remains.
Authorities say they have determined the remains are from a white male. They plan an autopsy and other tests to figure out how long the remains have been in the woods, the man’s identity and a cause of his death.
Deputies say it is too early to try to link the remains to any open investigation or missing person.
