I live on Lake Norman, thus Ballantyne and anything south of it, such as the Whitewater Center seem so far away that I feel like I’m going on an out-of-town road trip when I go there. But I ventured down to the WWC the other weekend to hit up their Tuck Fest celebration. And I walked away with a season parking pass because I learned that it is well worth the drive!
For starters, I can take my dog there and go hiking, then just chill out and listen to live music with a draft brew in my hand like at their Tuck Fest. And, I’ve garnered a new obsession there … PADDLEBOARDING!
You can do a full day of stand-up paddleboarding on the Catawba River there at the Whitewater Center (no, not the rapids ha) for around $20, or an all-sports pass for $50 — and they have A LOT of sports from whitewater and flatwater kayaking, rafting, to zip-lining and rock climbing, to adventure courses. I had fun like a little kid in Disney World, got a good work out in, and even managed to remain vertical on the paddleboard the entire time!
I know where I’ll be on the sunny weekends this summer! Right here…
And it’s not just for tomboys like me, either: check out my girl Emily’s Maynard experience at the White Water Center via her blog
