(CBS Charlotte) — Think back to when you were a child for just a minute…back then, did your memory ever fail you?
Chances are, the answer is “rarely.”
As people age, forgetfulness seems inevitable — but is there a simple solution that you can utilize to help you remember things?
Perhaps! A new study published in the journal PLOS ONE reveals that hand-clenching could help form and recall memories. Typically, hand-clenching, or making a fist, is associated with anger — but in this instance, hand-clenching not only helps you memorize things, but it also helps you recall the memory at a later time.

During the study, each participant was assigned one of five clenching techniques, and one group did not clench either of their hands. While memorizing a list of words, each group tested their clenching technique.
Of the five different clenching experiments, the study group that memorized and recalled the most words after the exercise, was the group that clenched their right hand first, and their left hand second.
