Here is a quick rundown of some of the story lines going on in baseball for the first month of the season. We are going to do this at the end of the every month during the baseball season.Excuse any typos, I was trying to finish this before 10 more Braves struck out. I failed.
Mike Scioscia: It appears that the beginning of the end could be near for Mike Scioscia as manager of the Angels. The Angels blew 2 late leads last night in the Halos 19 inning loss to the A’s and find themselves 7 games back of the Rangers in the AL West already. The Angels aren’t on pace for 90 wins for the second straight season despite major free signings.Somehow the rise of Mike Trout, signing Albert Pujols, Josh Hamilton, and CJ Wilson has made the team worse. The Angels adjusted payroll currently ranks 7th in the league.Scioscia will be the most sought after manager this off-season should he be let go and will probably be one of the highest paid managers in the game for whatever teams he goes to.All good things come to end though and it seems it is just a matter of time before his run ends in Anaheim.

Stephen Strasburg: Strasburg saw a doctor after the game  with Atlanta last night for tightness  in his forearm but insisted he will make his next start. Strasburg has not been very good this season and

Rockies: One of the surprise teams in the early season is the Rockies as they rolled the Dodgers last night 12-2. Catcher Wilin Rosario and OF Dexter Fowler have had breakout seasons at the plate. SS Troy Tulowitski has 22 RBIs despite a sore shoulder. A player to watch is the newly called up 3B Nolan Areando

John Farrell: It’s hard for a Yankees fan to admit this but new Sox skipper John Farrell has done a tremendous job this year keeping the team together despite the tragedy and all the distractions that came with it.Has to be the early favorite for manager of the year in the AL.

Mets: You know the season is really picking up when the Mets start to fall off after a decent start. They fell to the Marlins in 15 innings last night and have lost 5 in a row.UNC product Matt Harvey continues to shine and threw another gem last night.

Pirates: We can’t mention Colorado and not discuss the 1st place Pirates as well. They did lose last night to the Brewers 10-4 but at 15-10 are one of the better stories going right now. They have had good starts the past 2 seasons but have faded in the summer. Is this year different? I say they will fade soon if their star Andrew McCutchen doesn’t pick it up.Is only .217 during the 1st month.

Dodgers:The Angels aren’t the only team in LA off to a rough start. The Dodgers are just 12-13 despite the massive amount of money they have spent over the past 10 months or so.The Greinke injury is not helping the cause but either is Matt Kemp who is off to a bad start (1HR 10RBI .253)

Three Players That Are Surprising

Chris Davis-Baltimore-9HR  28RBI  .352 and leading contender for AL MVP at this point

Torri Hunter-Detroit- Batting .375 (2nd in AL behind Carlos Santana)

John Buck-Mets-Leads the NL with 25 RBIs

Three Disapointments:

Josh Hamilton-Angels-.202 with 9 RBIs

B.J. Upton-Braves–.146 average for their big money free agent singing

Jose Bautista--Does have 7 HRs already but is batting just .192 for the Jays in their awful start
