CORNELIUS, N.C. (CBS Charlotte) — A student at Hough High School has been arrested in connection with false bomb threats that were reported at the school yesterday.
The student is being charged with one felony count of reporting a false bomb threat.
Early yesterday morning, a suspicious device was reportedly found in a restroom at Hough High School, leading to an evacuation of the school.
Then, a suspicious package was reported in the afternoon — prompting another evacuation and search of the campus.
During both evacuations, officers searched the school. After the second incident, students were sent home for the remainder of the day.
During the second search, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s hazMat unit and an FBI agent assisted officers on campus.
In both instances, nothing suspicious was found.
There were no reports of any injuries during either incident. Cornelius Police issued a statement late yesterday afternoon that they believe the threats were a hoax.
