CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — A private burial is set in Charlotte for soloist George Beverly Shea.

About 1,000 people, including Graham and former choir director Cliff Barrows, attended Shea’s funeral in Montreat on Sunday.

The private burial is set Monday at the Billy Graham Library.

Shea died in an Asheville hospital last week at age 104.

He was a soloist for Graham’s ministries for nearly 60 years.

The 94-year-old Billy Graham did not speak during Sunday’s service. He issued a statement praising Shea’s faith and contribution to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. The statement says Graham expects to see Shea in heaven “relatively soon.”

Shea often performed gospel classics such as “How Great Thou Art” before Graham sermons during his crusades.

He earned a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Grammy Association in 2011.
