Nearly 400 NC Runners At Boston Marathon

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Nearly 400 runners from North Carolina were in Boston for the marathon.

Thirty-one-year-old Nicole Gross of Charlotte suffered leg injuries when the explosions rocked the area near the finish line. She had surgery Monday night.

Thirty-one-year-old Asheville native Danielle Deines had finished the race and was in a tent getting treatment for severe leg cramps when the first explosion occurred.

Deines is in her first year of residency at a hospital in Albuquerque, N.M., and stayed to help the injured. She says she saw people who had lost parts of their legs.

Fifty-three-year-old Kerry Seal of Cary had finished the race and was in a medical tent for fluids when the first blast occurred. Seal says the tent fell silent after the first explosion and then the injured began arriving.
