We begin this blog by wishing our best to the family of the goat that is involved in our first story of the morning. I thought Cubs were above this. You live in Chicago not Alabama…
Fan Sends Goat Head:Here is a story you didn’t expect to see when you woke up this morning. A goat head was delivered to the office of Cubs owner Tom Ricketts yesterday afternoon. “We got a call at 2:30 p.m., responding to 1060 West Addison, Wrigley Field,” a Chicago Police Department spokesman said. “We’re investigating it as an intimidating package.” The head is now in police custody. There are two possible explanation in my opinion. Tony The Hitman from The Drive finally snapped after the Cubs-Braves series this weekend or the goat himself had enough and took his own life so he didn’t have to go through another miserable season. I will go with theory number 1 as it would be hard for a goat to send his own unattached head. Its a damn shame it got to this point, Hitman. One thing is for sure. The goat head would be more effective as a closer than Carlos Marmol was.
Braves Rolling: The Braves continued their red hot start with an 8-0 win over the Marlins last night. It was the 6th straight win for the Braves who improved to 8-1 on the season.Jordan Schafer and Juan Francisco went a combined 7 for 12 while Mike Minor went 5 2/3 with 0 runs to move to 2-0. Next up is a huge 3 game series at Washington. It will be interesting to see how just how good they are at this point and if the loss of Freddie Freeman will factor into this series.Freeman was one of the few Braves hitting for a high average through the 1st few games. B.J. Upton and Dan Uggla are off to awful starts despite the team playing well. I said all winter the Braves can add as many pieces as they want but if Dan Uggla is as bad as he has been the past few seasons then they won’t go as far as they should. Its early but Uggla is batting .200 and Upton is at .103. One bright spot has been the play of catcher Evan Gattis who has 3 Hrs and is batting .391 so far.Going to be interesting to see what happens when Brian McCann returns from injury. Its a long year but it seems like we will be hearing the Tomahawk Chop late into the fall.
Huge Lakers Win: The Lakers held off the Blazers last night 113-106 and improved their lead for the 8th seed in the west to 1 game over Utah. Kobe played the entire game, had 47 points, and went 18 for 18 from the foul line.Pau Gasol had 23 points, seven rebounds and nine assists, while Dwight Howard added 20 points and 10 rebounds.Damian Lillard led the Blazers with a career high 38 points. The Lakers have a tough 3 game finish to the season as they host Golden State, San Antonio, and Houston.Utah finishes vs Minnesota, at Minnesota, and at Memphis. The schedule clearly favors Utah but I’m Kobe is on a mission and I say the Lakers grab the 8th seed.
