How Duke Looks In 2014 After Getting Crushed By The Cards
I appreciate the well wishes from so many of you yesterday after the Duke loss.It warms my heart that so many UNC fans seem to care about my mother and State fans love me so much that they were suggesting my honeymoon take place in hell this summer. It also hurts that a man named Hancock was a big part in ending Duke’s run.I would think that Cousin Luke would have more respect for me than that. This is usually the time when I turn to the Yankees to pick up my spirits but it appears I have more of a chance of ending up in therapy than they have of making the World Series.
Duke’s Future: While Duke haters will wait for excuses to roll in there are just certain times when you tip your cap to the other team and move on.Yesterday is one of those times. Duke was completely outclassed in the 2nd half. You can spread blame in many areas when you lose by 22 but I feel a lot of this one falls on Coach K.They did not adjust well to the pressure and a switch to a 2-3 zone at some point may have kept us in the game longer.Quinn Cook also seemed to regress a little bit this weekend after a stellar season overall. The future is still very bright for Duke though and they should have a team that is explosive on offense next season but struggles on the boards. With the recruits and returning players I think the loss of Ryan Kelly and Seth Cury will not be felt as much as the loss of Mason Plumlee. Lets take a look at next years roster and the new players coming in.
Guards:Quinn Cook, Tyler Thornton, Rasheed Sulaimon, Andre Dawkins(?), Matt Jones (5 star SG-Desoto, Tx)
Forwards:Alex Murphy, Amile Jefferson, Josh Hairston, Rodney Hood (transfer-Miss State), Jabari Parker (5 star forward-Chicago), Semi Ojeleye (5 star forward-Ottawa, KS)
Center: Marshall Plumlee
As you can see, the biggest key to next season will be the progression of Marshall Plumlee.Unless they add another late transfer that already graduated from another school than Marshalll has to step up for Duke to have a prayer of getting back to the elite 8 again.Cook,Suliamlon, Hood, and Parker should give them an excellent offensive core.Still not sure what the future is for Andre Dawkins but I did include him on this list even though its doubtful. Keep an eye on Matt Jones, he is supposed to be an amazing
