RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A state agency is raising concerns about an effort by Republican senators to shift control of North Carolina’s largest airport from Charlotte.

The State Treasurer’s Office wrote a senator that legislation moving oversight of Charlotte Douglas International Airport to a regional authority could cause prolonged litigation over airport borrowing.

Deputy Treasurer Vance Holloman urged caution Monday after a review by a bond attorney recommended by Democratic Treasurer Janet Cowell’s office. The lawyer said uncertainties have not been settled by North Carolina courts.

Holloman told bill sponsor Sen. Bob Rucho the bill could affect the North Carolina municipal bond market and the desirability of state revenue bonds.

The bill has passed the Senate and is in the House. Rucho has another legal opinion that said bonds would not be affected.
