GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say the mother of a 2-year-old boy has been charged with neglect in his death because she locked him in a bedroom and didn’t check on him even after hearing a loud noise from the room.
Greenville County sheriff’s deputies say the crash was a chest of drawers falling on Chandler Shaver, crushing him around 11:30 p.m. on March 12.
Investigators said 27-year-old Margie Shaver turned herself in Thursday to face a homicide by child neglect charge.
Authorities say Shaver was not watching her son or her 4-year-old daughter when the boy was killed. The girl has been taken into emergency custody.
Shaver is awaiting a bond hearing. It wasn’t clear if she had an attorney.
