RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Women’s health advocates in North Carolina are planning a protest to challenge proposed legislation requiring doctors who provide abortions to have admitting privileges at a local hospital.
The “Not in Her Shoes Rally” is scheduled for noon Thursday at Halifax Mall near the N.C. General Assembly.
A statement from the groups staging the rally says the advocates are gathering to tell politicians they should stay out of a woman’s personal health decisions because they do not “walk in every woman’s shoes.”
The shoes gathered for the event as a symbol will be distributed to a local women’s organization.
Senate Bill 308 also would require any physician performing an abortion to remain with the patient through the entire procedure and recovery period.
