The Drive Monday 3-11-13 -Jay Bilas talks with the guys about about the smaller line-up for UNC going against Duke for the second time, what he sees happening in ACC tournament, and we talk about his new book “Toughness” that hit store shelves last week.
Jay Bilas is the go to guy for college basketball analysis not only for the ACC but for all college basketball. But with the UNC and Duke game fresh on the brain we start by asking him if he thought it would be a runaway like it was.
“I was surprised they got knock back on there heels in the beginning and weren’t able to recover I expected a closer game”
After seeing the game courtside on Saturday what does Jay think of the two teams moving forward into the ACC tournament.
“Well Duke is the real thing…especially when Kelly is in there…I think it’s really revealing that they haven’t loss with him in the line up”
Not to leave out NC State we ask Jay just what he thinks of the Wolfpack and how their season has gone.
“I think its been good…I think our expectations were really high based upon what we saw last year and the talent level.”
“This was as a huge step forward for them this year. To take the punches they did, to punch back and learn to punch first in some instances”
With Jay Bilas’ new book “Toughness” on store shelves now we talk next about that after some good natured ribbing from Jay we get the background on the book.
“Its not about being physically tough as it is being mentally tough and meeting challenges and not shrinking from them and doing the everyday things that it takes to be great.”
We close with Jay by asking him about the location of the ACC tournament and it possibly being moved to Madison Square Garden.
“Its the media capital of the world we act like that’s not important but it is, the players would love it. I don’t know what it is about the Garden but its just magical.”
“I really believe that if the ACC were in MSG it would be better than the NCAA Final Four. I really believe that”
Jay Bilas will be on the call of the Big East Tournament this week before preparing for the selection show on Sunday.
