The Drive Tuesday 3-5-13 -Mike Gminski checks in with The Drive to talk about what the Bobcats need to do to get this team in the conversation with better teams in the NBA, why Michael Jordan has not become as great an owner as he was a player, and with round 2 of Duke and Carolina coming up this Saturday we get his thoughts on the rivalry that he was a part of.

Mike Gminski has been around ACC basketball since his days at Duke and is also a favorite of Charlotte Hornet fans from the 80’s.  We start out by asking Mike what he thinks about Michael Jordan’s comments on his website about the mixed reactions he’s getting about changing the name to the Hornets

“Frankly, whatever name they have if they were winning people would come and watch the product and I think that’s the bottom line.”

G-man breaks down some of the things that he feels the Bobcats should do to get this organization to turn the corner and move its way up in the standings.

“It’s going to take a lot of “benjamins” at the end of the day…they are going to have to over pay.  I can tell you from experience that kind of motivation works with NBA players”

Plus with the ACC regular season winding down we get into the Duke/UNC rivalry rematch this Saturday.

“I think the small lineup is playing well for UNC…I think Hairston gives them a real edge…their only going to get better”

“What do you think the atmosphere will be like in Greensboro on Saturday with Miami, NC State, Duke and Carolina in the semi-finals.  That would be a Greensboro coliseum from 20 years ago”

Mike Gminski’s jersey number ‘43′ is retired by the Duke men’s basketball team. In 2002, Gminski was named to the  ACC 5oth Anniversary mens basketball team as one of the 50 greatest players in ACC history.
