Gang Teaming Up With Klansmen To Protest KKK Rally
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (CBS Charlotte) — Two groups will come together in an unusual pairing to protest a plan Ku Klux Klan rally in Memphis next month.
WPTY-TV reports that the Grape Street Crips is teaming up with Klansmen to protest the KKK rally.
Horton, member of the Crips gang, put a video on YouTube earlier this month to gather people against the KKK rally planned for March.
“I’m talking to the Bill Gates of the gang wars,” Horton said in the video. “We’re going to be waiting on you.”
One of the people that saw the video was Bradley Jenkins, the imperial wizard for the United Klan of America in Alabama.
“This young man and the people of the community do not need to fear the Klan coming. People making accusations that thousands of Klansmen are coming to fill the streets of your town – that’s one little man speaking for many got to stop,” Jenkins told WPTY. “Don’t be fooled. They’re fooling the media, everybody these folks saying they’re Klan, they’re not Klan.”
Horton and his gang were initially hesitant about teaming up with the Klan.
“They were like, ‘Juan, don’t mess with the KKK. They’re going to hang you, boy!’ But I trusted my first mind. I met with them and we’ll keep meeting until the rally March 30th,” Horton told WPTY.
“We will stand resolute with the citizens of Memphis and this young man and anyone in town, no matter what color they be, because hate and racism has no place,” Jenkins said.
Memphis has yet to approve a permit for the KKK rally.
