KU’s Johnson Erupts, NBA Team Rising, And Cuse Free Fallin’
Sorry for the delay in our post this morning. Getting Celania ready for the show is like getting your Grandpa ready for his lunch in the afternoon. Plus the ride in this morning felt like I was on the set of the Perfect Storm 2. Be careful out there, Mother Nature ain’t happy today.
Elijah Johnson: Kansas Guard Elijah Johnson entered the game against Iowa State last night averaging 10ppg and erupted for 39 in the Jayhawks 108-96 overtime win. Johnson was 13-22 from the field and hit 6 treys. Eight of his points came in the final 29 seconds of regulation and 12 in overtime. Kansas has now won 5 straight since their 3 game slide earlier this month. The loss shouldn’t hurt the Cyclones tourney chances as they are 19-9 overall and 9-6 in the Big 12.They play a brand of basketball that is fun to watch and should be a tough out for somebody in the first round
Syracuse Falls: You can always tell when March Madness is right around the corner when Syracuse starts their fall back to earth. The Orange are just 4-5 in their last 9 games after they fell at Marquette 74-71.They still have to play Louisville and Georgetown in 2 of their final 3 games.Syracuse starting the season strong and falling down the stretch should not shock any College Basketball fan. As crazy it sounds, Jim Boeheim would be considered one of the biggest underachievers in sports history if Carmelo Anthony didn’t come along in 2003 and get him a National Championship. He has won 911 games in his career which is simply amazing. What isn’t so amazing is the fact the his teams have only advanced to the Final Four twice (96,03) in the past 25 years. It’s not a secret that I’m not much of a fan of Roy Williams but the man has won two titles in the last 8 years and is criticized non stop by portions of fan base. I would hope Boeheim gets just as much heat for his lack of postseason success by his own fans despite his Hall of Fame career
Wizards On The Rise: Don’t look now but the Washington Wizards are starting to resemble an NBA team again. They beat the Raptors in Toronto last night 90-84 and are 13-9 since John Wall returned to the lineup January 12th, including 10 of 12 wins at home. Rookie Bradley Beal has upped his scoring each month and is averaging 18 ppg and shooting 50 percent from 3 in February. They are still a ways a way from being a true factor but imagine if they are able to add another piece like Otto Porter in the draft.
