Hope everyone had a great weekend. All of us on the Mac Attack send our thoughts and prayers to the fans that were injured during the Nationwide Race on Saturday. That is a scene I hope we never see repeated. Here are some notes on the ACC from over the weekend
Duke Gets A Win And Big News: Duke dismantled BC yesterday 89-68 but the bigger news came after the game when Ryan Kelly met the media for the first time since injuring his foot against Clemson in early January.Kelly is eying a March 5th Senior Night return against Virginia Tech. Its important to get Kelly back right now to get him minutes and in game shape. When Kyrie Irving returned two years ago from his injury it was too late in the season and actually hurt the team more than helped in the NCAA Tournament. It’s going to be interesting to see how Coach K handles Kelly’s minutes in the ACC Tournament. I can’t see him (or Seth Curry for that matter) playing 3 games in 3 days but I also can’t see Coach K sacraficing the tournament which means a lot to him.

Curious Case Of C.J. Leslie: A season that started with so much promise for NC State looks like its heading in a direction State fans have seen before. In a postgame interview after the Heels loss Saturday, Scott Wood told the Greensboro News & Record “I don’t think it’s fatigue, its a couple other things”. When asked to clarify, Wood said, “I’m not allowed to say”. Now “other things” could be anything from calls in the game to injuries but those that follow the team know better than that. “Other Things” might as well be the nickname for C.J. Leslie at this point. When NC State started the season ranked number 6, you didn’t hear one analyst or writer question the talent of the Wolfpack. The one thing in question was if Leslie could behave throughout the year. When State needed him to come up big Saturday, he came up as small as can be. It must drive people crazy within the State program that they have a player in Richard Howell who is an absolute warrior and a guy in Leslie who looks like he could care less about playing when he is out there. We see teams year after year in sports that have loaded rosters fail because the coach couldn’t figure how out to manage the different personalities on the team. That trait is one of the main reasons Joe Torre had such a great run with the Yankees and why John Calipari has had an amazing run at Kentucky in recent years. Gottfried and Leslie can still learn a lot from each other but time is running out.
