Tomorrow night at 9:00 p.m. the greatest rivalry in college basketball continues as the UNC Tar Heels square off against the Duke Blue Devils. The most anticipated game of the year is upon us so get ready for two hours of intense basketball action.

These two powerhouse teams always have great talent, dominating the ACC conference. Tomorrow is the first of a two game regular season series which begins at Duke and ends in Chapel Hill on March 9th. If you have been following college basketball this year, you can understand how unpredictable this season has been. The #1 ranked teams have lost five weeks straight as of today. So if you think this will be a lopsided game, you’re in for a big surprise.

Duke, by most is considered to be the best team in the NCAA right now with a 21-2 record. Their only losses come from a Miami team, who is currently leading the ACC, and NC State who was predicted to win the ACC in the preseason. Duke has held up to their standards blowing many teams out and coming up big in close games. Mason Plumlee, their senior center, is having a MVP season. According to ESPN statistics, he is averaging 18.2 points to go with 10.7 rebounds per game . His leadership and athleticism has helped Duke in crunch time situations, making him a solid NCAA Player of The Year candidate.

Carolina on the other hand, has struggled often this season. Since their stars Kendall Marshall, Harrison Barnes, Tyler Zeller and John Henson all went to the NBA; UNC is really young and inexperienced. James McAdoo and Reggie Bullock are expected to carry the load since they are surrounded by many freshman. So far the Tar Heels are 16-7 and hungry for a big win against the number two ranked Blue Devils. The Tar Heels have been through many battles this season including two embarrassing blowout losses to the Miami Hurricanes. Although UNC is currently unranked, Coach Roy Williams still believes his team can make the tournament if they finish the conference strong. Veterans Bullock and McAdoo will need big games if they’re to stand a chance in Cameron Indoor Stadium tomorrow against the Blue Devils.

The expectations by most is that the Blue Devils will blow the Tar Heels out. But this game may come down to the wire. Conference play is a lot tougher than most realize, especially this game. The rivalry between these two schools is intense, as it should. Only about half an hour apart, UNC and Duke compete for the Battle of Tobacco Road. Although Duke on paper is a better team, do not be surprised if UNC comes out victorious. History shows that UNC is 132-102 all time vs. Duke, 18 Final Four Appearances to Duke’s 15, 29 to 19 ACC Regular Season Champions, and 5 NCAA Championships to Duke’s 4. These teams bring out the best basketball against each other.  Tomorrow night basketball will be at its best as the UNC Tar Heels try to upset the #2 ranked Duke Blue Devils. This game is sure to be historic so don’t miss out!
